It’s nice to have friends in high places. I cherish all of my friends, especially the ones who see my vision and are doing what they can to help me.
In April, I am hosting the First Annual Baby Boomer Girlfriends Retreat in Daytona Beach, Florida. Issues affecting baby boomer women will be brought to the forefront during a TELEVISED meeting on April 18, 2008. The program is being called Boomer Women: Having Our Say.
The forum, which is being televised by PBS Station WCEU-TV15, will consist of a panel of nationally recognized female boomer advocates who will address topics such as health care and caring for aging parents, financial matters, entrepreneurship, reinventing yourself after 40, as well as the emotional and physical impact of growing older.
OK, so how am I able to pull off getting a TELEVISED baby boomer town hall meeting and draw in some big name boomer advocates? There are three reasons:
1) The Grace of God
2) Good friends in high places
3) Fellow baby boomers who believe in my project.
The weekend will be filled with lots of activities in addition to the town hall meeting. An Over 40 pa-jamming party is planned and celebrity baby boomer Bern Nadette Stanis, who played Thelma in the TV sitcom Good Times, will be a featured speaker.
The theme for the Retreat is “Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!” That theme is so appropriate because many women in my age group are meeting challenges head on and we’re not letting a little thing like menopause and growing older slow us down. And just like the song says, “we’re definitely on the move!”
